rotating | Landscape Pages containing 'sidewaystable'
I wish to know if there is a way to use the rotating package and, in particular, the sidewaystable environment, to cause pdfLaTeX to rotate the page which contains the resulting table into a landscape orientation so that the reader does not have to turn her/his head when reading the pdf.
I am aware that the pdflscape package enacts such page re-orientations beautifully. A significant disadvantage of using this package in a tables-related application, however, is that if a table is placed within the landscape environment, it no longer "floats". In other words, whereas table and sidewaystable wait until after a full page of text is available for typesetting before placing the requested table, invoking the landscape environment seems to abruptly interrupt the flow of text to next place the requested table --- on its own page --- even if it means that the preceding page is substantially devoid of text. The net result is as through a pagebreak has been executed immediately before the invocation of the landscape environment. Whereas I understand why this might be a by-and-large desirable behavior for the landscape environment, it is not such for me in the present application.
Thank you for your thoughts,
Christian
