Exactly like the old preview by pressing Alt+P on a selection or highlighted parenthesis.

You can enable it by setting "Command=Preview with dvipng" (and not the option with --follow!) and "Display Mode=Inline" on the preview config page. (these are actually the default options of 2.1, but it will import the old/wrong options of 2.0 )

What exactly does this mean?

That you can select the inner/outer block between two highlighted parentheses by pressing ctrl+P I/O
And by pressing ctrl+P S it will select both parentheses, so you can change them (e.g. if you have [..] and selected it in this way, you only have to type { to change it to {..}).

Note : This program is the "authentic" Texmaker editor and there is strictly no relationship between this program developed since 2003 and an other latex editor which uses intentionally almost the same name to trick users.

E-Mails are neither the primary nor an appropriate measure to send bug reports to authors of software projects. Therefore most projects offer a bug tracker.

As you can see yourself, back then e-mail was offered as a single point of contact for any kind on inquiries and what I sent there was silently ignored on multiple occasions for whatever reasons. I would have certainly used a mailing list or an issue tracker if it were available at all.

I see that now apparently the author is also of localghost's opinion. I didn't check when exactly the project at Google Code and the issue tracker were created but this is certainly very recent. Well, I wish him best of luck with his endeavors.

Where did you see a flame, please? I am neither using TexMaker, nor TexMakerX. I have received an announcement that TexMaker 3.0 was released and decided to check up on the home page if it is any better now.

What I found there was a hilarious note which presents some other project as evil chameleons that "trick" users riding on TexMakers popularity (whereas the true reason appeared to be a total lack of communication with the author).

I found this so funny that I decided to post it in this thread. That's it. If someone thinks that this note is provocative, offensive or is ashamed of it, I'm sorry, I didn't write it, so tell this to the one who did.

When a fork uses :
- the same name (for one letter) without authorization
- the same icons (at the beginning of the fork, the windows and macosx icons was exactly the same icon than the authentic soft)
- the same look and feel for the web site (the author of the fork even copy the web site)
it's of course to trick users.
There is no problem with forking : when the author of texmaker was the maintainer (and the creator) of kile, a fork of kile (klat) has been launched and there was no problem or flameware about it (the fork didn't try to trick users by using the same name).
Some other latex editors was inspired by texmaker and there was never had trouble with them.
The only problem between texmaker and texmakerx is the use of the same name!
The fork of OpenOffice is not called OpenOfficex (of course, they respect the open source rules and they know that they can't use almost the same name for legal reasons).
Everybody can take a look at the recent fork of ffmpeg : the authors of the fork can't use the same name and the same logo.
And that's true, before using google code (which doesn't exist in 2003 at the creation of texmaker!) the only way to contact the author was the email and the author received and replied to thousands of mail (and it's always the case).
You can email to the texmaker author and you will receive a reply!
Actually, the two softs are not compatible (everybody can verify it in the code source) : they don't use the same editor and the same pdf viewer. Continue to pretend that texmakerx is a an extended version of the original texmaker is a lie.

Anyways, there is a new release of TexMakerX:

• It is called TeXstudio 2.2
• The pdf viewer has a continuous mode
• The pages are rendered asynchronous in multiple threads
• The inline preview works with included files
• Triggerstrings can be assigned to user macros (superseding the keyreplacements)
• Other things (completer sorted for usage frequency, more environments syntax highlighted, bugs, ...)
