Customizing autocomplete without permission to edit TeX.xml

Post by suz1482 »

Hi,

I am using TeXnicCentre on a PC running Windows XP Professional.
I would like to customize my autocomplete options.

From posts in other topics (e.g. Add self-defined commands to the auto-complete list) I have establised that I need to navigate to C:\Program Files\TeXnicCenter\packages\ and edit the TeX.xml file, or create a new .xml file in that directory.

However, I do not have permission to edit, or write files in the C:\Program Files\TeXnicCenter\packages\ directory.

Is it possible to create an xml file somewhere else (in My Documents, for example), and customize the TexNicCentre startup options to scan that xml file (in addition to the default files) and load my customized autocompletion options?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I had a similar problem.
You can probably manage somehow to save to the folder where the file is currently stored, but this will be a pain.
I found that the best solution was to uninstall the software and install it in some other folder which does not require permissions.
