Page Layout ⇒ Header for Assignments

Hi all,

so far my use of LaTeX has been limited to forum use. I'm studying Maths, so LaTeX helps a lot.

I want to try to use it now for my assignments.

All assignment needs to have a few details at the top of every page, such as my name, my student number and the page number. I've read about "headers" would that so what I want, and how?

you could use the fancyhdr package, the user's manual explains how to use it.

Hi there,

as soon as I try to use any "usepackage" command the program stops making any further changes? It doesn't matter what I type, when I build then display, it won't change until I delete all use package commands?

I'm using TeXnicCentre v1.0

am I using the wrong version, my google searches seem to all mention LaTeX2E?

many thanks, I read through the document you supplied the link to (the manual), I needed to download a file and put it into my directory, all is working fine now with fancyhdr.
