MiKTeX and proTeXt

Hello. I am using MiKTeX 2.8 and WinEdt 5.5 on Vista.
When I try to compile, i receive the error message:
LaTeX failed to create a DVI file

This error message appeared for files there were compiling successfully just a day or two before.

The log file runs until the *.aux file is created and then ends.

Has anyone else experienced this?

You could post your .log file here, as attachment to a forum post. This file contains further information which can help to fix the error.

I have copied two log files, which are for the same file. The first log file occurred when I compiled on an M: drive. The second log file occurred when I compiled on the C: drive. They are for the same exact input file.

Again, I am running MikTex 2.8 and WinEdt 5.5 on Vista.

As it works on the desktop and creates a DVI file, the problem is possibly not LaTeX related, but an operating system issue (write rights, space, file system issues).
