LxY 2.0 problems

Hi there, I downloaded LyX 2.0 earlier and got a lot of problems with it - I'm no expert so I have no idea where they came from - perhaps someone can help?

1) Missing packages?
Although LyX 2.0 found the path for MikTeX 2.9 alright when downloading, it did not find the necessary .sty packages afterwards when trying to compile a PDF. I manually installed some, but then it started complaining about fonts being missing, too. A problem with LyX or with my MikTeX installation?

2) LyX 1.6/2.0 compatability
Once I had opened a document with LyX 2.0, LyX 1.6 gave me error messages when trying to open that document! Luckily, I only ever opened one document with LyX 2.0, otherwise I would've lost a lot of work (and I had a backup of the one I did open). What is going on here?

Does anybody have similar issues or is it just me? I've taken to uninstalling LyX 2.0 and working with 1.6 again for the moment. :cry:

When you install packages after you've installed LyX, you should reconfigure LyX afterwards, i.e., in LyX: Tools > Reconfigure.

Most apps work that way: newer versions can read files created by older versions, but older versions cannot read files created by newer versions. However, opening isn't the problem until you save changes. And there is always a backup file created by LyX every couple of minutes.
