Open/Close behaviour of ERT inserts

Post by tafi »

Hi again all,

I need to make regular use of ERT as I use the "isotope", "mhchem" and "siunitx" packages. This in itself is not that annoying (we can't expect every single LaTeX package to be supported natively in LyX), but the way the ERT inserts are displayed and entered on the screen certainly is annoying.

Is there a good reason why ERT has to be entered into a huge red box (out of all proportion to the displayed line height)?
In some paragraphs I have to enter many isotopes and the appearance of these big boxes all over the place makes it very difficult to read.
Of course the obvious solution is to close the inset. The way these insets appear when "closed" is much more readable, except that the insert then gets truncated (often unnecessarily) with an elipsis (...).

The way these insets must be closed (with menu "View" -> "Close all insets") is also cumbersome and the behaviour is really annoying if you have several other insets (eg: LyX notes) which you want to remain visible.

We can already open/edit a closed inset just by clicking on it, so is there a way to have the inset also close automatically when we leave the ERT environment and go back to typing standard text?

Many thanks.
