(author?) missing for citation style alpha

Post by randallr »

I'm having some issues trying to get my citations to look right. They seem to be working almost correctly except for the fact that if I select the citation style "author (year)", for example "Beason (2008)", I get "(author?), [Bea08]", regardless of who that actual author is. How do I fix this?

I can work around it by selecting the citation style "(author, year)" and adding the author to the text myself, but it would be nice to get it working properly.

Recommended reading 2024:

LaTeXguide.org • LaTeX-Cookbook.net • TikZ.org

NEW: TikZ book now 40% off at Amazon.com for a short time.

And: Currently, Packt sells ebooks for $4.99 each if you buy 5 of their over 1000 ebooks. If you choose only a single one, $9.99. How about combining 3 LaTeX books with Python, gnuplot, mathplotlib, Matlab, ChatGPT or other AI books? Epub and PDF. Bundle (3 books, add more for higher discount): https://packt.link/MDH5p

You'll need to provide us with a working example. My guess is that you haven't declared the author field correctly, but I need to see what you have before I can help.

Please read the "read this before posting" sticky threads at the top of each forum; they tell you how to create such examples and why they're useful. Welcome!
