Type 1 fonts in Tex-live under Ubuntu 10.10

Post by venik »

I have installed TexLive under Ubuntu, and discovered that it cannot find some Type1 fonts. When I try to use the Latin Modern (sans serif) in compiling a Lyx document into pdf (using pdflatex through Lyx) I get an error message that lmss10.pfb cannot be found. I can add the file manually to the font collection, but I do not know where it should go.
Maybe one day the Ubuntu people will update TexLive in a timely fashion (it still has the 2009 version of TexLive), but until then I am stuck.
By the way-- the same file works just fine with the Type 1 Latin Modern font under Windows with TexLive.
Any advice on updating the font list used by TexLive under Ubuntu will be appreciated. I have not installed the necessary tlmgr because Ubuntu does not have it in its repositories.

Late breaking news-- I reinstalled the LModern package and all is now well. Must have been corrupted somehow.
