re-usability of tex documents

Post by Pol »

As latex adoption is spreading well over preparation of research articles,
re-usability might become a wanted feature.
I would like to know of any developers with plans on this regard.

Here is my naive idea: an application to
1) break up a tex document into sections and subsections, each of them being
provided with metainformations (name, authors, date of the source document,
subject keywords)
2) pool all items
3) displaying all items, sorted by keywords
4) linking items according to the users' preferences

Any possibility for such project to be carried out?

thank you

NEW: TikZ book now 40% off at Amazon.com for a short time.

And: Currently, Packt sells ebooks for $4.99 each if you buy 5 of their over 1000 ebooks. If you choose only a single one, $9.99. How about combining 3 LaTeX books with Python, gnuplot, mathplotlib, Matlab, ChatGPT or other AI books? Epub and PDF. Bundle (3 books, add more for higher discount): https://packt.link/MDH5p

So, you would like to have something like bibtex but for document parts if I understand correctly. I'm not sure how useful that would be. Do you have in mind reusing your own work or that of others? In the former case, how often do you just "import" a part of the document without any editing? In the latter case, you should either quote or cite the work. Maybe, I just don't understand your idea, so please specify what would be the applications of such a system in your opinion.

Cheers,

I would use such tex-assembler to manage lesson notes and pick up exercises for students.
I would be able to provide tailored notes to students, at different stages of the math class, showing a given number of exercises, skipping theoretical details, theorem demonstrations, etc. and adding examples to demonstrate math concepts in different contexts.

Of course, it would allow several authors to pool their materials.

Take a look at CTAN Catalogue. Maybe you will be able to find something that suits your needs. I think of particular interest to you might be the following categories: Cheers,
