Math & Science ⇒ polynom and macro output generally

Hi

I am pretty new to latex, but have installed the polynom package.

Is there a way to get the output of the
\polylongdiv{x^3+x^2-1}{x-1}
command as tex?

i'm assuming that it produces some x^2)\overline{x^3+x^2\;\;-1}
type output

I want to fiddle with that?

I am sure I am missing something pretty basic in the world of latex, it is eluding me.
