LyX ⇒ dvi preview window automatically closes when scrolling.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and also relatively new to LyX and LateX. Hope you can help me.

I just noticed when I add a figure float with graphics and figure description to my document, that the dvi preview window (ctrl+D) automatically closes when scrolling.

When viewing pdf everything seems fine. Also when removing the figure float, dvi previewing works like it should.

Anyone know what might cause this?

EDIT: I am running Ubuntu 10.04 if that might be of help.

Which viewer are you using for DVI?

Have you tried xdvi?

Is there a problem document you could post here?

Yeah, that'll be evince. I second xdvi as a DVI viewer. With evince, I don't get any included picture displayed at all.

xdvi seems to do the trick.

Just weird that evince just quit like that. Liked the interface and scrolling options better with evince.

Believe me, it won't be long since you fall in love with xdvi It may look spartan at first look (and it may seem strange at frist that you must scroll down to the next page with Space or PageDown keys), but there is much more than meets the eye. I dare to say that you will not find a better app for the job, really. Apart from working links (I mean all links, not only urls like in Evince) and a sweet pointer which shows up when you follow a link, I personally consider left-mouse-click and right-mouse-click zoom as a simply awesome feature for a more detailed inspection of parts of a document (not to mention how useful the ruler mode can be). I wish there is an app with the same set of features for PDFs.

Yeah, I really think the evince development has focused on PDF files; it never seems to handle DVI files well. Personally, I almost never bother viewing DVI files; I just convert them, but if I did, I wouldn't trust evince with them.
