frabjous, I've installed it at last. I had some problems but it works now. The font would be appropriate (it has all ligatures) but it has no old style numerals and I don't need ligatures so much as numerals. This time I stay with venturis. I have about three months to publish this translation, so I have time to explore documentation to find the best solution.
Later I'll try romande and XeLaTeX with fontspec too.

The asker of this similar question over at tex.SE accepted "Day Roman" as a good font to use for this kind of situation. You might look into that as well.
