Can't recover from crash!

Post by oboeguy »

My PC mysteriously crashed mysteriously and rebooted while I was away. TeXnicCenter was running. After the apparently spontaneous reboot, TeXniCenter won't open! I get the splash screen, I get the main window with panes in place but also immediately get an error window with the message "TeXnicCenter has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Any suggestions on how to proceed? I'd happily re-install if I knew where to find my configurations (e.g. output profiles) for re-use. TIA.

FYI, I managed to get TeXnicCenter to load by trying to open a specific .tex file instead of merely opening the program. I'm still curious as to where everything is stored should I need to re-install or maybe work on another machine. TIA.

Is it possible that you closed TC with an project opened, moved that project to nirvana or somewhere else and try now to open TC? If it is so, then, open any project (.tcp) close it, but let TC open and then close TC.
No or not enough coffee, user halted.

Nothing of the sort. Don't mess with success and all that -- haven't moved any projects. Anyhow, the problem seems to recur when the PC crashes with TnC running. Again, though, it's easily resolved by starting TnC via double-clicking on the icon for a .tex file instead of opening TnC in the usual way.

I also had the same experience with error information, when i click a specific "tex" file. but I can still launch the "TexnicCentre" program from the installed directroy.

The way i solved the problem is lauch "TexnicCentre" program rather then click a specific "tex" file. Then i create a "New documents", if this works fine, then just load the specific "tex" file. and It works!

Good luck
