Install biblatex-chicago on TeXLive

Post by looreenzoo »

Hi all,
I would like to install the biblatex-chicago package (http://ftp.uniroma2.it/TeX/macros/latex ... x-chicago/), but my editor cannot find biblatex-chicago.sty. The README file recommends to copy some of the files in <TEXMFLOCAL>/tex/latex/biblatex-contrib/biblatex-chicago and the other ones in <TEXMFLOCAL>/doc/latex/biblatex-contrib/biblatex-chicago. This doesn't seem to work: do you have any clues where to copy those files and which command to run afterwards?
Thank you in advance!

It's possible that you just need to run:

Code: Select all

texhash

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
or

Code: Select all

sudo texhash

after placing the files, so that LaTeX knows they're there.

(I'm assuming you're on some kind of Unix here.)

This part of the error message should be pretty clear:

Code: Select all

The Chicago style requires biblatex v0.9c or later.
You are using: '2010/02/14 v0.9 programmable bibliographies'.
This is a fatal error. I'm aborting now.

I guess you'll need to try to install a newer version of BibLaTeX itself. If you were using the normal TeXlive distribution this would be pretty trivial to do, since you could use tlmgr. (You can even intall biblatex-chicago with tlmgr.) But I'm not quite sure about the best way to solve it for the Debian version, since if I remember right, it doesn't come with tlmgr.

You could try the instructions here. The current version of biblatex is 1.0 -- and is available from its sourceforge page, and CTAN.

Please note I haven't tried this. (I have the normal version of TeXlive with tlmgr.)

You're right... I tried to install the newer version of BibLaTeX and all the other required packages but without tlmgr it was just insane. So I uninstalled my TeXLive distribution, reinstalled a full version from the CTAN, and now everything works fine. Thank you!

Now that the problem is solved, please be so kind and mark the topic (not the last post) accordingly as clearly written in the Board Rules (to be read before posting). Please keep that in mind for the future so that further reminders will not be necessary.
