Trouble installing streetex

Post by kicker »

Hello,

I have been unable to install the package stree.sty. I have downloaded it separately (it was not listed in the Package Manager) and added the file location to the list of 'Paths for TeX related programs.' As a matter of thoroughness, below is the error message I have received every-time.

thanks!

Code: Select all

! LaTeX Error: File `stree.sty' not found.

Type X to quit or <RETURN> to proceed,
or enter new name. (Default extension: sty)

Enter file name:

Did you refresh the file name database afterwards?

I selected 'Refresh FNDB' in the MikTeX Options application and I have synchronized in the Package Manager application (Repository-> Synchronize). Is this what you mean by file name database? I am sorry I am a bit of a newcomer to LaTeX.

thanks.

I don't use MikTeX, and it works slightly differently with TeXlive, so I'm mainly going by hearsay which comes from spending way too much time on these forums, but yes, "FNDB" presumably stands for "File Name Database"!

Where did you actually put the file? I'm a bit concerned by the description of "Paths for TeX related programs", since that sounds like paths for executable binaries, not for style files. Style files need to go into the right folder of a recognized TeX Directory Structure (TDS). The MikTeX help page on "Integrating Local Additions" should describe it plainly enough. But if I were you, I'd use your own local texmf or root that you created, not one of the ones that was pre-installed when you installed TeXlive.
