TikZ mind map problem

Post by sitex »

Hello,
The attached PDF file should open correctly in reader(acrobat) 9, but if you close the file and then reopen it, it will be corrupted. The file will open correctly if you close reader(acrobat), load reader (acrobat) again, and then open the file. The file has no problems if I typeset PDF using dvi > ps > distill. Does anyone know what is wrong?
I have attached the tex file.
Thanks,
Tom

It sounds to me like something is wrong with your installation of Adobe Reader, not with that document. I opened it up six times in a row with Adobe Reader (v9.3.4 for Linux) without problem. I tested both opening and closing it using Adobe Reader's menu without shutting down Reader, as well as with closing and restarting Reader each time. You can see whether or not anyone else can duplicate your problem, but it sounds very unlikely to me that the problem has anything to do with the way (pdf)LaTeX is creating the document.

TikZ mind map problem

Hi, Tom

I got the same result as frabjuos. Using Adobe Reader 9 (version 9.3.4) I couldn't reproduce the problem mentioned. I could open, close and reopen the PDF file without problems. I also doubt that the problem comes from pdfLaTeX; it seems to be more related to your Adobe Reader installation.

Thanks to both of you for responding so quickly. I have the problem mentioned in my original post with both Reader and Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. Before I submitted that post, I had a colleague check the file with his computer and he had the same problem; he is running both Reader and Acrobat (latest versions). I am wondering if there is some sort of conflict between the two. It is interesting that I have no difficulty with a distilled ps file.
Thanks again.

Did anyone who has both Reader and Acrobat installed have the problem described in this thread?

Thanks,

I've tried pdflatex and xelatex to typeset the file.

It seems that the file generated using pdflatex does exhibit the problem, while xelatex does not. Using MiKTeX 2.9 with Acrobat 9.4 on Windows 7.

Leong,

Thanks for your reply. I am inclined to agree that there is a problem with pdflatex since I have no difficulty with the file if I typeset PDF using dvi > ps > distill.

Leong,

Do you also have the latest version of Acrobat Reder installed on your machine? The two other people who have had trouble with this file have the latest versions of Reader and Acrobat 9 installed.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

I have Acrobat 9.4 installed. Not using Reader.

The problem showed up when typeset using pdflatex, but not with xelatex.

I have an old computer with Acrobat 6.0.5 and tried the file on it and no problem at all! Weird...

HTH.
