General ⇒ Getting the full reference details into a footnote.

Hi

I seem to be trying to do something weird. I would like to get the full details of a bibliography item into a footnote or an endnote. Normally, these details are only available in the list of references at the end, and even the natbib package does not seem to do more than convert number references such as [1] to something like (Smith 1992).

The books I am reading (and would like to emulate) have essentially two ways of giving reference details. One is a list of Further Reading at the end (done trivially with bibTeX etc.) and the other is within the notes for each chapter, e.g. 3. See the discussion in J. Smith, Smith's Booktitle (London: Some Publisher, 1992), especially pp. 35--42.

Now I would like all my bibliographic data to reside in one bibTeX database. How do I get a specific entry printed out in full within the main text or in a foot- or endnote? This seems to go against the general paradigm of \cite commands that within the text only numbers or unique keys appear and all the info is left for a list at the end. Am I missing something obvious?
