To get columns of equal length on the last page of each chapter in my two-column document use the balance package.
However, I have noteced that the page numbering is also moved up to some specified distance below where the two columns end and does thus not appear in the footer. This makes the appearance a bit odd.
I assume that it might be possible to change the balance package to include space below each column to fill out the page but I don't really know how to do that.
Does anyone know a nice way around this?

Re: Issue with balance package and page numbering
Don't bother about this question. It seemed to be a problem with blindtext.
Once I put in ordinary text and have more than one page of text in each chapter of the document, the page numbering occurs in the footer.
I save this though in case poeple will encounter the same issues.
