how to set encoding?

Post by santana »

Hi,

I am Kile Linux user who is collaborating with TexNic Windows user on some papers and proposals. I've recently convinced my collaborator to switch from word to latex.

We have the issue that windows character encoding used by TexNic can't be understood by Kile (I think it's a bug in Kile). At ay rate Kile understands utf8 so I would like to know how to set TexNic to save in utf8 encoding?

and thanks so much for making TexNic! If it weren't for you guys we'd still be collaborating with word. :D

Do you know what version of TeXnicCenter is being used? Versions prior to the 2.0 series don't support Unicode.

(You can definitely set Kile to ISO-8859-1/Latin encoding, however. Or you could consider using a cross-platform editor like TeXmaker/TeXmakerX/TeXworks, etc.)

At least the beta versions of Kile 2.1 (version 2.0.85 here) detect the encoding autonomously like the alphas of TXC2. So source code exchange should be no problem any more.

Best regards and welcome to the board

To change the encoding of a file in TxC2, you have to "save as" your file. There is a drop-down menu where you can choose the encoding of your file.
