We'll need more infos. For starters, which operating system are you using? If you're using Linux, try /usr/share/myspell/dicts.

I think in the new OpenOffice versions the dic dictionary is stored in a zip file called something.oxt.
So you have to decompress it, before you can use it in Texmaker

Spell checking, again

For my German version of OpenOffice 3.2.1, I find my wordbook here:

Code: Select all

C:\Users\XYZUserName\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice.org\3\user\wordbook\standard.dic
But maybe benibela is right because I do not know what happens to the user's profile files in c:\users\...\user\..., sinceI have been consecutively updating OOo since 3.0, so that location is where I can find my wordbook. It's the only .dic-file I found on my PC.
So benibela could be right because if you have an actual fresh installation of OOo and never isntalled it before on your current OS, maybe this .oxt-format is used. (?)

Yeah, it's a (relatively) fresh install of open office.
Some observations:
The wordbook folder exists, but if i try to open the .dic file in it (it's just 1kb, so it probably is a placeholder), Texmaker complains "Error: Can't open the dictionary".
I found a folder(yes, I'm sure it's a folder) whose name ends with ".oxt" and it seems to contain the spell checker, but there are no .dic files in it. So, I went back to language settings in OOo and it turns out the spell checker is listed under "language modules" instead of "dictionaries". I guess, this is the end of the road then. There is probably no trivial way to extract the data into to the .dic format.

Can't you just download the dictionary or dictionaries you need by itself? Look here, for example.

And you certainly followed the instructions in Sections 1.3 of the TeXmaker Documentation [1]. frabjous already gave you the source for dictionaries.

While the dictionaries in http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries are nice, it really isn't the same thing. :D

I hadn't noticed the 2.x limitation mentioned in the documentation, my bad. I did some digging(again) in the projects home page and finally found an old version for OOo 2.2. I'll try compiling it later.

Isn't the same thing? Why not? You can use those with TeXmaker.
