Figure numbering- An interesting feature available??

Post by sankarnkp »

Here is a little problem I am trying to figure out. I dont know if this feature is available.
We know that figures are numbered as they are placed in latex Code and then with the command \ref{} we get the correct number in the document text. However here is something I want to accomplish. I want the figures to be numbered as they are referred in the text. That is which ever figure I mention first in text must be numbered figure 1 and placed as first figure, irrespective of where I put the environment for that figure in the code. How this is different is that by doing this I dont have to be worried whether the figure I talk about first in the text is placed as first figure in the latex code. I hope I am clear. Any suggestions might be helpful.

Thanks
Sankar

I knew that I've already read this somewhere else. I would appreciate if you would mention that you posted this request already in another forum. That's a matter of decency.
