LyX ⇒ File window does not open

Hi,

I just installed Lyx on Win 7, 64 Bit, German. Lyx is also in German.

there is one big problem with Lyx that I can't work around. Any time you click on something, which should open a file window (e.g., open a file, new file from template, save as, open a skin file, ...) LYX goes to background (like it should) but comes back on top after 1/10th of a second. In other words, I never see the file window.

Also changing the GUI-language doesn't have any effect.

Does anybody have an idea what the problem might be? I tried reinstalling and rebooting so far.

You don't write something about the LyX version. Make sure that you got the latest one. Nevertheless this problem seems to be more related to your operating system. Contact the developers on the LyX homepage. Feel free to report new insights here.

This problem already occurred in this forum and as far as I remember has been answered successfully. So, a Forum Search should do the trick. Since I'm not using LyX, this all I can advise.

You don't write something about the LyX version. Make sure that you got the latest one. Nevertheless this problem seems to be more related to your operating system. Contact the developers on the LyX homepage. Feel free to report new insights here.

I use the most current version (1.6.7).

Probably it is something about the interaction between OS and Lyx, but I am not sure what it is and also not what can be done against it.

This would be the best opportunity to learn the LaTeX syntax and use one of the editors introduced on the index page of the forum. Or give TeXmacs a try [1]. It offers similar functions.

I again recommend to contact the LyX developers. They should know if users are running into trouble to have the chance for bug fixing.

I forgot to say that I contacted the Lyx developers. Let's see what Texmacs does. I have to say that I am not really fond of the bothersomeness of programming interface like GUIs. I like the Word interface and only are desperate about its shortcomings.

Then be prepared for LyX causing you problems of another kind when drawing up your documents with it.

The problem has been solved. I installed Lyx 1.661 with the alternative installer and that made it work. I don't quite understand why that is so, but at least I am glad that the problem is solved now.
