Where can I download the MikTeX DVD?

Post by mark.farnell »

I have a friend who is not too good at computer and she uses a Windows laptop. She does not have reliable internet access and she often works on computers where she does not have admin access, so I reckon a MikTeX DVD is best for her, which has all the packages in one place and can be directly run.

However where can I download the MikTeX 2.8 DVD?

I am on a university campus, so I would prefer downloading that DVD from a university-based site.

Thanks!

Mark

The exact source of the software shouldn't make a difference. Or is there something special about university-based sites I don't know about :?:

Regarding the topic, you need to download the "FulL" MikTeX installer and then select the DVD drive as the path for installation. That way all the files will be copied onto the DVD and .... there you go, if you click on the installer next time, you can choose the DVD as the depository. :)

I forgot the most important part. How does she look?

There is a portable version of MiKTeX [1]. That should do also. Either on an external drive or an USB stick.

Okay, so if I run the portable MikTeX, and thten install all packages, the package will be installed into the base directory of the portable MikTeX and I can take it anywhere and it just runs..........

Exact source of software matters, because if I download from a non-university site, it will cost the university a fortune, and the sysadmin will kill me.

She is a playwright in her mid twenties. She has long hair, and I try to persuade her to use latex to write play scripts. She is not very good at computer literacy, so LyX may be a better choice. By the way, how can I make LyX portable and make the portable LyX (if there is one) to work with portable MikTeX?
