Hey,

I think use the natural doc class (\documentclass[12pt]{article} is written in my preamble.

What other class should I use then?!

PS: I am new to Latex, so sorry for the stupid question :)

Figure Does Not Show, Caption Does!

Hi,
farbetjan wrote: I think use the natural doc class (\documentclass[12pt]{article} is written in my preamble.
Ian used nature instead of article (not "natural"), so your problem must be different.
Perhaps show the preamble of your document and how you include the figure.

My preamble is:

\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\usepackage[a4paper,left=25mm,right=25mm, top=30mm, bottom=25mm]{geometry}
\usepackage{amsmath}
\usepackage{multicol}
\usepackage[onehalfspacing]{setspace}
\usepackage{hyperref}
\usepackage[dvips]{graphicx}
\setlength\parindent{0pt}
\setlength{\parskip}{5mm}

And thats my graphic:

\begin{figure}[htbp]
\centering
\includegraphics{01_Forecasts_Non_Stat.eps}
\caption{Interest rate forecasts with 4- and 13-month horizon}
\label{Figure 1}
\end{figure}

Perhaps you're using pdfLaTeX instead of LaTeX? In that case it would'nt work.
You could post your .log file as attachment here to clarify.

Figure Does Not Show, Caption Does!

The log file shows that you're using pdfLaTeX, which doesn't support eps files. Either compile first to DVI format and convert to pdf afterwards, or stick to pdfLaTeX but convert the eps graphics to pdf first, for instance by the epstopdf tool.
I might already help to use the package epstopdf for conversion on-the-fly.

Thanks, I downloaded the package, but I do not really understand the manual, which gives installation examples using Linux.

Moreover, I use WinEdt, so I feel, it further complicates the situation. :roll:

Plus: as I said, I'm a LATEX-newbie. :cry:

Asking for help in terms of installing this package would probably be somewhat complicated, right?

Figure Does Not Show, Caption Does!

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

First way: Start/MiKTeX/Browse packages opens the package manager, install epstopdf there.
In your document write

Code: Select all

\usepackage{epstodf}
Second way: Start/Programs/Command Prompt opens the command prompt, change to the document directory, type

Code: Select all

epstopdf Bild1.eps
and press enter. This should produce Bild1.pdf. In your document use

Code: Select all

\includegraphics{Bild1}

Hey Stefan,

I have the same problem with MikTeX 2.8
but there is no epstopdf package to install, rather epspdfconversion.
Using Windows XP.

So, what to do? Thanks.

PS: I tried \usepackage{epspdfconversion}, then it gives error when the .eps image is included during compile.
Also, there is no option to use Latex in MikTeX; only XeLaTeX and PdfLaTeX (results are same or worse with XeLaTeX), so pretty much, I gotta go with the PdfLaTeX it seems. I also tried using epstopdf to convert .eps image to .pdf on the command line and command doesn't exist, so it doesn't work.

Hi Alex,

welcome to the board!
Look for epstopdf.exe in the MiKTeX binaries folder, it could be like C:\Program files\MiKTeX 2.8\miktex\bin.
