I find that installing TeXnicCenter in Windows 7 will fail to correctly associate .TEX or .TCP files with TexnicCenter. Other tex editors have options to restore or edit the associations used by that editor.
Does TexnicCenter have a way of restoring file associations with itself?
Is there a known reason why Texnic Center would fail to associate itself with the correct file extensions upon installation?
Looking at it further, it seems the installer is skipping the creation of HKLM\Software\Classes\.tex, Latex.Document, etc..

Re: Windows 7 and File associations
More information.. The computers that are having this problem had apparently had TexnicCenter installed before. Another Tex editor was installed which took the file associations. If TexnicCenter is installed again, it will not 're-take' the association, even if all other programs using the extensions are removed. I also attempted to simply remove association information and ToolsCenter information from the registry.
What would be left over telling TexnicCenter's installer to not take the file associations?
The file associations can be set manually in control panel, but user-selected associations don't display the file icons correctly (small picture inside 'paper' icon). The HKLM settings can also just be copied form another computer, but I think this is worth a cleaner answer if someone has one.
