Hi,
I'm new to LaTeX having recently started using Lyx. I've just discovered BibTeX for managing references, and I'm trying out JabRef to manage the bib database.
But, I was wondering if there was something that wouldn't only manage references in terms of actual sources, but would also allow me to store quotations as well, some kind of quotation manager. That way, as I read relevant books I can store interesting quotations there and then instead of having to find them later. The ideal piece of software would allow me to store quotations with references, and allow me to categorise and search them in some way.
Does any such software (for Linux) exist? How do authors generally manage quotations?
Thanks

Quotation manager?
You may give TextCite a try, it seems that it's exactly what you're looking for. Although some manual work is required, luckily you may use it together with JabRef and/or other reference managers (take a look here for infos about this) so you don't have to enter more than an author, a title and a Bib ID.
Note: you may need to select "Custom citations" in File > Preferences > Export and then define LaTeX format manually instead of choosing "LaTeX Default" (e.g. \cite[$P]{$R}) to get a correct reference when copying a citation.
EDIT: Also, you can use highlight and annotate features of Mendeley to mark places of interest in a file (PDF file). Although it is not a real quotation management like in case of TextCite, it is very useful. However, for now, there's no way to search for a text inside sticky notes, but, according to one of devs, this will be implemented in future.

Re: Quotation manager?
You might also look into the Zotero plugin for Firefox, which does quite a lot, but I think it could handle this, and will export citations in BibTeX format. I don't really have that much experience with it, though.
Re: Quotation manager?
Thanks, TextCite looks like it's just what I was looking for.
I think I'd rather use an application so I can add the files to my version control system instead of using a Firefox plugin, but Zotero does look interesting, so I'll check it out.
Thanks again
