MikTex

Post by assafwe »

Hi,

Do I need a MikTex installation when I install LyX? I simply want to be able to write documents and convert them to PDF..
What's the functionality of MikTex?

Thank you!

Asaf

MiKTeX is a TeX system: it provides the LaTeX program, packages and many other things. You will need it to use Lyx.

Please read more careful what others write to you. You have already been given useful hints in other requests to make LyX work [1]. And it is not necessary to start new topics with the same request [1,2]. If you would be more attentive, your problems could already been solved.

Well, first - I am sorry, I probably should have posted this under the same topics.
I don't think, However, the problem is that I don't read the replies carefully; The thing is I'm a beginner user, and simply don't understand well enough to solve my problem from a reply like your recent one:
localghost wrote:You have to read more carefully. LyX is nothing without LaTeX as back-end. So make sure that you have a LaTeX system installed. And »right settings« means that LyX must be able to use the installed LaTeX system (the binaries respectively). I can't give more advice because I don't use LyX.
If this is not the right place for me to post, plese let me know so.. Otherwise, i'll need a beginner's-level exact explanation in order to understand.

I have been busy the whole day trying to reinstall LyX, but despite a number of attempts, I couldn't get the installation to work properly (I know it's automatic, but it never went smooth). I kind of don't know what I should do next..

Thank you,

Oh, didn't know that my answers have been too complicated. In case that Joseph's reply doesn't help, you should take a look at the documentation section of the LyX homepage. This will surely help.
