spelling and grammer checking
Hi,
Which tools do you recommend for spelling and grammer checking of latex text? The one in kile is useless.
Any information is welcome.

spelling and grammer checking
What makes you think so? In my opinion there's no tool that does the job really good. Spell checking depends on the quality of the used dictionary. And I'm not aware of any tool that masters grammar checking. I would not consider the spell checker in Kile useless.carol wrote:[...] Which tools do you recommend for spelling and grammer checking of latex text? The one in kile is useless.[...]

Re: spelling and grammer checking
Because it is not as good as MS-word. Grammer checking is far from being done. Should I install any thing? I would like some thing at least like the one in MS-word.
Best wishes

I don't share your considerations. Kile 2.1 beta 4 in my language (German) offers on-the-fly spell checking with similar good results as other software. As mentioned before it's mainly a matter of the used dictionary.

Re: spelling and grammer checking
I use kile 2.0.3. Once I posted a message on kile forum to find out if the dictionary has been improved in the new version but got no reply. Do you know about this? How about grammer checking? Does yours check grammer mistakes?
Thanks

Re: spelling and grammer checking
As far as I know grammar check is not available neither in Kile nor in any other editor I know. Spell check is useful to correct a few typos. Grammar check is a feature that I don't need.

Could you be more specific? What is better about MS Word?carol wrote:Because it is not as good as MS-word.
It's been awhile since I've tried the grammar checker in MS Word, but last I did, it was terrible, and I wouldn't let such a piece of junk meddle with my writing.
(Please note the correct spelling of "grammar", by the way. Apropos, I suppose.)
Re: spelling and grammer checking
For someone like me, not natively speaking English or German, MS Word grammar checker will catch some errors when I write those languages. Of course, you cannot rely 100 per cent on it, but it's better than nothing.

For grammar checking, you could try the GNU diction package. It's not a full-fledged grammar checker, but it does help somewhat. One thing that it does well is catch double words; for that alone it's useful. In Linux I use it like this:
Code: Select all
detex -l myfile.tex | diction -s
