Problems with TeX Live on Windows

Post by pegasus1983 »

Hi guys,

I have just installed TeX Live on my Windows XP (install-tl.zip -> install-tl.bat)
and have the following problem: if I try to run a binary from the command line,
i.g. "latex example.tex", "pdflatex example.tex", "latex ?", "latex", ...
the programs "hang" (no output, black dos-screen) and access the HDD like mad.
Any idea? Would be great ...

A couple of questions:
- Which TeX Live (I assume 2009, but is this correct)?
- Did you start a new Command Prompt after the installation (so that the path will be updated)?

1) Yes, 2009 (the latest version from the page)
2) Yes (I restarted the pc after the installation).
Furthermore I copied the example.tex to the \bin
dir in order to avoid potential path-problems. But
latex.exe without any parameters (i.e. "latex.exe")
hangs also ...

I've just installed MiKTeX and everything works fine, so the problem
is "solved" and no answer is needed (quite lame, I know - but I just
need some TeX distribution for my master thesis). Nevertheless, thank
you Joseph!
