I am trying to install MiKTeX 2.7. Net Installer would not work at all, so I downloaded the Basic version file and installed that.
I now need revtex4 and natbib (and maybe others). I downloaded revtex4 from http://www.aps.org and I had a copy of natbib.cab from the previous install.
I have tried using MPM without any success. MPM says that http://ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/systems ... /packages/ gives 'No Data'. The 'download' links on that page for the packages point to a different URL.
(Also, the version of natbib on that page is labeled as a tar file (UNIX!).)
I have tried to make a local directory (C:\LocalTeX\packages) and put some .cab files there. HOwever, the package manager says that that directory 'does not seem to be a local repository' and refuses to go further.
Any suggestions on how to add packages to the basic version, or how to install the complete (the instructions do not work)?
I am using XP Pro x64 SP2.

Re: Cannot use MiKTeX package repository
The repositories are currently not synchronized. Although they seem to be on-line, download and installation of packages is not possible at the moment. Allegedly the repositories should have been synchronized during the last week. So, all we can do is sit and wait.

To make a local package directory, you must add the packages
ftp://ftp.jussieu.fr/pub/TeX/CTAN/syste ... 7.tar.lzma
and
ftp://ftp.jussieu.fr/pub/TeX/CTAN/syste ... 7.tar.lzma
to your local package directory.
