LyX ⇒ LyX Program Code and Graphic Problem

Since I moved to Linux, I am trying to use LyX instead of MS-Office+MathType that I used in windows. The first problem that I have is with copying computer output (from R or MATLAB) into LyX. It does not keep the format, and I imaging I have to jump through hoops to get it done, so I just printed them into pdf and inserted them as Graphics. This is kind of annoying since it slows me down quit a bit. Also I need to insert lots of plots and graphs (I do it as Float). The major problem for me is that now I get a figure that fills up 1/2 or 2/3 of the page and the rest of the page is empty and this just looks awful.
Now when I am typing text+formula, everything is great but this Graphics problem is just too much for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
