MiKTeX and proTeXt ⇒ How to make a basic MiKTeX into a complete one?

hello
i have downloaded basic miktex and all of its pakages (a folder that contains many files about 600 MBs full of files with extensions of .cab and .tar.bz) i was windering how to make a complete miktex with these files?

It seems that you've already loaded the complete MiKTeX system. If you,already installed the basic version, start the MiKTeX Package Manager and choose »Select all installable packages« from the »Edit« menu [1]. But before you have to make sure that you choose an appropriate remote repository. The best is to take a server that is next to your location.

my problem is that i have all of the pakeges in a folder and i don't want to connect to the internet.
i mean i want to install them from my harddisc.

Unfortunately you didn't write how you downloaded all the files. For example I personally started the MiKTeX Net Installer and downloaded the complete system to a folder on the hard drive [1]. Since the installer also puts the package database into that folder, it has become a valid package repository. Therefore it needs two files.

The advantage to download the system with the Installer is that you can install and update the system at any time from this local package repository. If there are updated packages on the mirror servers, the Installer detects them by comparing the databases and only loads the updated packages.

So try your luck with the MiKTeX Net installer by giving the folder with the files as package repository and install the complete system.

i have downloaded them in pakage from 4shared.com the directory contains a file named setup-2.7.2960 and lots of files with formats like .tar and .rar

it also contains a folder named config with a notepad file.
is it the database?

You have got an older (but not outdated) version of the MiKTeX system. I suggest to start the setup file which is the aforementioned MiKTeX Net Installer. Follow the installation process and see if the folder is auto-inserted as local package repository. I can't advice any further at the moment because I'm not running Windows. Everything you need to know is described on the MiKTeX Project Page.

I already mentioned which files represent the package database. Just with a »2.7« instead of »2.8« in the filename.

Just one remark about the source of the files. It is not recommendable to visit such file sharing platforms. You never know what you get. Always get your software from a reliable source. In case of MiKTeX you should use the Net Installer which retrieves the system exclusively from the MiKTeX servers.
