LyX ⇒ Reference numbers

Hi,
I've written my thesis with LyX, and it's I've been really impressed by it, I've got everything the way I want it except for one little thing that I just can't get to work.
My document's laid out with a ToC, List of Figures, List of Tables and then the main body of the text. My problem is with reference numbering. I want the reference numbering to start at number 1 with the first reference in the main body of the text. The problem is that since some of my Table and Figure captions also contain references, and since these captions are listed in the Lists at the front of the document the numbering starts with them, so the first reference in the main body of the text is number 14! There must be some way I can make it start the numbering at the start of the main body, but I can't work it out. Please can someone help!

Hi - I have exactly the same issue, but my document is even simpler than yours (just plain text with some references). I have 8 references, and my numbering is in the order 8, 5, 3, 7, 1, 4, 2 and 6.

I tried editing the BibTex file to have the references in order and even went as far as to label them "ref01", "ref02" etc. but it still doesn't work. The number 8 is always the first number.

Thanks for the reply, but that's actually a different problem to the one I'm having. My references ARE listed numerically already, not alphabetically. The problem is that since references occur in Figure captions then they appear in the List of Figures, so the numbering starts at 1 in the List of Figures but I want it to start at 1 in the main body of the text.
