Today I loaded a project into TXC 2.0 alpha 1 (Build 1012) that contains a lot of files (>20) which don't fit all into the tab bar. That reminded me of a point on my wish list which is to have a scrollable tab bar for better access to the opened files. In opposite to TXC 1.0 there are no arrows any more but only the pull down menu on the right. This seems a little uncomfortable to me.

A minor issue that occurred during this process is that TXC seemed to freeze for some seconds. The screen became white and only the title of the TXC window was shown. As soon as the tab bar becomes full, this phenomenon occurs. But afterwards it works fine and the rest of the files is loaded. This issue is reproducible. The concerned project file was an old one once generated with TXC 1.0 stable RC1.

Hi Thorsten,

I don't see why a scrollable tab bar is more comfortable than a pull-down menu with a list of open documents. Scrolling through tabs takes much more time than two simple clicks.

As many feature suggestions it's a question of personal habits. I could turn the tables and say that I see no increase in usability by using a pull down menu because from my experience scrolling the (alphabetically sorted) tabs is much faster than searching a menu entry. I generally prefer not to move the mouse too much. So the best for me would be to move through tabs with keyboard shortcuts. But a scrollable tab bar has become a common solution in many programs (not only editors). This was my thought when suggesting that.

Scrolling through tabs using the keyboard is already possible by pressing Ctrl+Tab for next tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab for the previous one, or am I missing your point?

Ah, I see. But a very uncomfortable combination. Is that customizable? I'm thinking of combinations like "Ctrl+z" (back) and "Ctrl+x" (forth) on a QWERTY keyboard. (On my QWERTZ keyboard this would be "Ctrl+y" for back movement.)

Those tab combinations are standard in tab management on Windows and will not be changed. Ctrl+X is used to cut selected text and is a standard combination as well. However, you can assign your own key combinations to the Next/Previous Window menu items using the customize dialog which allow to scroll through the tabs.
