Cannot install MiKTeX 2.8
Hello,
I am using Windows XP SP3 and have made numerous, unsuccessful attempts to install MiKTeX 2.8 and am getting very frustrated. I have attached my log report of errors for your reference.
I have done some troubleshooting for a fouled installation of MiKTeX 2.8, but cannot seem to find the successful answer.
Please help.
Thanks,
audreyk

Cannot install MiKTeX 2.8
I am still having problems trying to install MiKTeX 2.8 (see code below).
I have now given up trying and reinstalled MiKTeX 2.7.
I would be so grateful if anyone out there can provide some useful advice.
Much thanks,
amk

Which MiKTeX Package did you download and where?
That lines about "*.cpp" look very strange to me ...
If find those lines also in my log from a successful installation:
Another thing from your log:
The path for the repository is a temporary path in my log, not one in the Program Files folder ...

Re: Cannot install MiKTeX 2.8
I am using Version 2.8.3553 of MiKTeX 2.8.
The Net Installer (complete MiKTeX) was downloaded from http://www.miktex.org.
I believe this is the standard resource site for MiKTeX ... is it not?

Re: Cannot install MiKTeX 2.8
Yes it is ... and you followed the standard install method?
Then I don't know hat is going wrong ...

Re: Cannot install MiKTeX 2.8
I used the MiKTeX 2.8 User Manual to guide my installation ... the same way I installed MiKTeX 2.7.
Maybe I'll keep trying ... hoping to successfully install it at some point.
I'll post further if and when I succeed.
Thanks just the same for your help, Knuffi.

Re: Cannot install MiKTeX 2.8
Woohoo! I have now successfully installed MiKTeX 2.8 on both my home and work computer.
Perhaps the trick during the installation was to select "Install MiKTeX for anyone who uses this computer (all users)".
I had previously selected "Only for: (username)" in previous attempts, which, I now believe, disallowed the complete 2.8 installation.
I am also using the streetex and xymtex packages (used for drawing chemical structures) which I placed into a local folder (C:\Local Tex Files), then directed my MiKTeX to find them (through WinEdt: Accessories > MiKTeX > MiKTeX Options > Roots).
Having referred to the MiKTeX 2.8 User Manual several times, I managed to troubleshoot my way through to resolving the installation issue.
So, thanks to the LaTeX and MiKTeX communities for their support to guiding me in the right direction.
Best regards,
AK
