Footnote problem

Post by fif »

Hi all,

I would appreciate it if somebody could give me some advice on how to handle an error I encounter whenever I try to add a footnote to a chapter or section title in LYX(see attachment).
Interestingly, adding a footnote to a subsection or lower hierarchy title works without a problem.
By the way, I use Lyx 1.6 on windows xp;

Thanks,
Chris

Can you post a copy of your .lyx document here? You may remove original text, just put in it a test chapter and a section with a footnote, and a line or two of text.

Note: you may have to create a zip archive and put the document in it since the forum doesn't allow attaching .lyx files.

I just tried adding a footnote to a chapter heading in a new .lyx file. It worked.
Obviously Lyx wasn't the problem all along, rather than that it seems that the .sty definition which I have been using causes the error,...

Very likely. May be document class too. One should protect footnote when using them in sectioning commands, and using "Short Title" so that footnotes do not appear in TOC too. So, you may doublecheck your TOC when you're finished with work on your document just to be sure your footnotes do not end up there too. ;)
