Graphics, Figures & Tables ⇒ label placement in sub figures

Hi,

I'm using the subfig package in a document and would like to know whether or not it is possible to change the position of the figure label/identifier, i.e. the (a), (b), (c). Default position is below the graphic but I'd like to change this to be alongside, to the left. Hopefully someone out there will be able to help!
