I think you are the right track, but also need to remove the two TeXshop files in ~/Library/Preferences. On my system, they are called TeXshop.plist and TeXShop.LSSharedFileList.plist

you have to laugh really -no, honest!

I completely uninstalled TeXShop, by following joseph's advice to get rid of the remaining vestiges.

Installed a new install of the 2009 version, and tested it before making any changes and, ta-da!
it worked (without changes).

I guess this must be because I'm using the pst-pdf package, which great and all that, but it does make me feel just a little bit foolish.

Oh well: alls well that ends well
