Upgrade to 2.0a for current project? Advice pls!

Post by Julian_S_Moore »

Hi,

Over on this thread http://www.latex-community.org/forum/vi ... =48&t=6800 I was asking how to get in a unicode character (under XeTeX); TeXnicCenter 1.0 (RC1) only seems to accept plain ASCII and it was suggested I try 2.0 (there must be a code oriented way to do it, but I'm pressed for time so I'm covering the bases).

What do you think... I'm working to a deadline to typeset a book. Should I upgrade to 2.0 or, local biases notwithstanding, should I consider another editor that runs under Windows (Vista, where I'm using MikTeX 2.7).

Solid input greatly appreciated!

Thanks

As I noted in your other thread, \char"#### should give you the UNICODE glyph for character ####, thus \char"03B5 for ε (epsilon).

Still, I'd recommend upgrading to a UNICODE-compliant editor at some point. It's understandable though if you want to wait until TXC 2.0 has reached a stable version. (I didn't know it was still in a testing phase when I gave the advice in the other thread. I don't use it.)

You can install TeXnic Center 2 alongside your existing installation and they will act independently, so it's well worth a try

Frabjous' answer worked (see other thread for my response), so I'll continue with with 1.0 for now... but the fact that I can run 2.0 alongside 1.0 is noted for future reference.

Thanks
