Salutations :-)

Post by AndyD »

Hi there to anybody who is sufficiently curious to want to read about me.

What can say? Well, I started programming at school, about 35 years ago. Went on to do a degree in Comp Sci, where we started off using punched cards, and only used terminals towards the end of the course - and this was at one of the UK's pre-eminent universities :P

Despite learning all about mainframes and tape-based sorts, my first project after leaving uni was a M6800-based embedded computer system. I then did various projects including real-time process control, imaging and signal processing before discovering that jobs in finance paid a lot more cash  Along the way I developed an affection for object-orientation and had several roles as OO mentor on projects. I now work in London for a big bank, as a technical architect.

I recently started an Open University course in mathematics ;) and decided it'd be a good excuse to learn to use LaTeX - for fun and to improve the quality of my course work. For non-UK readers, the Open University is a home-study university, sponsored by the government, that's been around about forty years now. I decided to do this on my newly acquired MacBook Pro, using TeXShop, which seemed to be the best LaTeX tool on the MBP.

OK that'll do for now

Many thanks for this very comprehensive introduction. It reminds me of a well known proverb that's a motto of my own.
You live and learn.

Best regards and welcome to the board

Hello,

I hope we can be helpful. I'm also doing an OU maths course, as luck would have it.
