Hi.
When generating a reference list, how to make certain bib items appear in bold or *asterisked or *both?
Thanks.

Re: asterisked bib items
I assume you are using BibTeX (you don't actually say). I'm also guessing that you are indicating papers where you contributed: this is the usual reason for this requirement. I've never come across a way to do this automatically, so I think your best bet to to create a modified .bst file that does the job. Programming .bst files is not that easy, so if you can tell us which style you use and the criteria for making things bold/starred then I'll make some suggestions. Depending on what you want, it might be necessary to include extra data in your .bib file.

Yes, I am using BibTeX. I just want to be able to mark some of the most important works in the field OR articles that require special attention. For the papers where I have contributed I would like be able to generate a separate bibliography list (but that, I guess, is another story).
I am using natbib, style: agsm (author: year).
And thanks for taking time to answer the questions.

Hi,
taking into account that the criterion is relevance (which is not one of the fields of a .bib database), I don't see how to easily implement a .bst file to do the job. At the moment, the only "easy" solution that comes to my mind is to do the changes manually; once your bibliography section is in its final version, you can manually edit the .bbl file generated by BIBTeX and make the necessary modifications. Then you can compile your .tex file in the standard way, but without running BIBTeX.

For this, I already made a suggestion in this other thread.phoneticist wrote:...For the papers where I have contributed I would like be able to generate a separate bibliography list (but that, I guess, is another story)...
