Configuring Texnic Center to work with xetex

Post by eborigene »

Does anyone know how to configure Texnic Center to work with xetex (if that is possible...)?

I suggest that you refer to the local guide of your LaTeX distribution. Since I do not know which distribution you are using, that's the only advice I can give. That's all my crystal sphere offers at the moment.

I think it is not possible because xetex requires unicode input and TexnicCenter does not support unicode.

Go to Build>Define Output Profiles. Click on "Add" (bottom left). Check "Run (La)TeX in this profile, click on browse button and navigate to your local xetex executable (in MikTeX 2.7 it's Program Files\MikTex 2.7\miktex\bin\xetex.exe (or xelatex).

I have had trouble compiling with either xetex or xelatex though, for reasons I have yet to work out. And as MartinC points out, your are severely limited with TexnicCenter does not support Unicode. However, it does give you a wider range of fonts to use.

The TeXnicCenter preview release 2.0 Alpha 3 handles Unicode and has a pre-configured XeLaTex to PDF profile. However, it's not a final stable release. So far I've been using it without issues though.

Four years ago (the time this thread was initiated) TXC2alpha 3 was not available.
