Hi Marz,

welcome to the board!
Do you use standard page numbers like in LaTeX plain or headings style, or do you use a package like fancyhdr or scrpage2 to output page numbers in your document? Do you get errors or warnings? Could you post a compilable code example, like your code but reduced, that's showing the behaviour? We need more information.

Ive last included a sap shot of the compiler code. I tink its just the noarmal latex page numbers.

Would this be enough info? i tired to input packages code but it moved teh centering of the whole document along with centering the page numbers so wasnt sure what to do after that!!

Thanks for your help stefan!!!!

Page numbers gone mad!!

This behaviour is quite usual. The upper page seems to be a chapter which means a page where a chapter starts. These pages are intended to differ in their layout from other pages to make them distinguishable from other pages while browsing a printed document.

Source code can be posted by using the code environment of the forum. You can find the according button right above the input window while composing a post.

Best regards and welcome to the board

Page numbers gone mad!!

Post by Stefan Kottwitz »

That behavior is common, like Thorsten said. But if you really want it to be equal you could redefine the plain page style like here:

Code: Select all

\makeatletter
\let\ps@plain\ps@headings
\makeatother
That should work if you're using page style headings.

There is no error. If you want to change that behaviour, you can choose another page style by means of the \pagestyle command or use packages like fancyhdr or titlesec to define your own.

Obviously you have chosen the page style »headings« for your document. If you want your chapter pages also to appear in this page style, add a few lines to your preamble like shown below.

Code: Select all

\documentclass[12pt,a4paper,english]{report}
\usepackage[T1]{fontenc}
\usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
\usepackage{babel}
\usepackage{geometry}
\usepackage{blindtext}

\makeatletter
\let\ps@plain\ps@headings % switch plain page style to headings
\makeatother

\pagestyle{headings}

\begin{document}
  \blinddocument
\end{document}
