Hi there,
An external software that allows you to save in multiple format.
I like opensource software, so I would recommend something like gimp and xfig. Both also exist for MS plateform.

I agree with fatra2 and can highly recommend Xfig if you are running on Linux, not tried it on windows. The thing I like best is that you can export your figure as a combined Latex/postscript file. This results in very high quality figures. There is a guide here:
