How can I get big \searrow or \nearrow? The \Bigg or \left commands are not working for \searrow, although these commands work for \rightarrow, \leftarrow. Also \[ \xleftarrow{\hspace*{7cm}} \] does not work for \searrow.

Could you clarify the context in which you'd want to do this: I have lots of ideas about how you could make a big diagonal arrow: \cancelto from the cancel package on a phantom section, graphicx to rotate an existing extendible arrow, relsize with \mathlarger one on an existing arrrow, tikz or pstricks -- but which one I'd use would depend on what I was doing.
