Hello there,
I have just installed MikTeX 2.8, and TeXnicCenter 1.0 (stable release). I am trying to generate a PDF file (the dvi can be generated) and I get no errors, but zero pages. I am attaching the log file. Even when I generate the dvi file, I cannot run bibtex. The error I get is: bibtex.exe: "Windows API error 123: The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect."
I hope you can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,

Re: Cannot generate PDF
Hi there,
It might be a stupid question, but it gets the ball rolling. How do you generate PDF files??? Are you converting your .dvi to .pdf with dvipdfm??? Are you trying to generate them directly from your source code???
If you are converting from .dvi to .pdf, you might want to check that dvipdfm is correctly setup.
Otherwise, in your source code, you need to declare which pdf maker you want LaTeX to use. I normally start my source code with \documentclass[a4paper,pdftex]{book/article/report/letter}
If this does not work, give more info on your problem.
Cheers

Re: Cannot generate PDF
Hello there,
Thanks for the reply. I am using LaTeX ==> PDF provided with TeXnicCenter. However, the same file was working with MikTeX 2.7, but unfortunately, I had to rebuild my desktop recently, and installed MikTeX 2.8. So, I am wondering if there is something wrong here...
I have no idea...

Re: Cannot generate PDF
bottom of the log ==> we're dealing with a font error that is apparently fatal. When you rebuilt your desktop, did you re-install the MathDesign fonts? It's all I can come up with, so no use asking me if this doesn't help

Re: Cannot generate PDF
Hello there,
I had mathdesign installed when I rebuilt my desktop. I just uninstalled it, and tried to reinstall it again (all done through MikTeX package manager). It just gives me a blank! I find the package, and select it: neither + (install) nor -(uninstall) are clickable. I tried different mirrors, but the problem persists. I will uninstall MikTeX 2.8, and go back to MikTeX 2.7...
That's the only thing I can think of doing...

Re: Cannot generate PDF
Hello all,
I have just uninstalled MikTeX 2.8, and installed MikTeX 2.7. Everthing worked as a charm: all packages installed on the fly, PDF generated, bibtex and makeindex worked as they were supposed to. No problems whatsover. It might be that MikTeX 2.8 is still a Beta version, and there are some bugs to be fixed...
Can someone give a reasonable explanation?
Cheers,
