Graphics, Figures & Tables ⇒ Getting started with Tikz

I realised today that I'd better learn Tikz now rather than later.

I've already started doing simple plots and diagrams, but I'm wondering if you guys could offer me any tips or direction to packages or macros or what not that would possibly make my life easier.

I'm mostly using it for stuff like simple 2D plots.

My reason for using Tikz (I've been doing all my diagrams with Inkscape before) is for uniformity in all my diagrams. And also I'd like to be able to plot simple functions without having to break out the vector-illustrator and creating new eps/pdf files.

have a look at the TikZ example gallery, there's a lot of examples with source codes.
