TechnicCenter Latex to DVI doesn't work

Post by peter_bh »

The MikTex yap.exe in my Techniccenter does not produce any DVI, only an error message (I have no problems with PDF). I have tried to remedy this problem by reinstalling both MikTex and TechnicCenter but this doesn't remedy the problem. Any suggestions to get DVI working again? Any ideas about the possible cause of this malfunction? (I work on a computer with Windows Vista).

You should at least give the exact wording of the error message and where you get it (Yap itself or log file).

TechnicCenter Latex to DVI doesn't work

Open a command prompt, move to the directory where your source file is located and start a latex run manually.

Code: Select all

latex filename
If you get the same error, there may be a systematical failure. In every case post the log file as attachment to your next post.

I have latex-ed the document in a command prompt and this seemed to go through without any problems, but when I try and open the DVI file I get the same error message from Yap:

Code: Select all

Error: /syntaxerror in -file-

Attach the source and the log file (in a ZIP archive) to your next post.

TechnicCenter Latex to DVI doesn't work

I can't comprehend the problem neither with TeXnicCenter (TXC) nor on the command prompt. I only get a warning from hyperref about a wrong value for the backref option and two about "Overfull hboxes". Insert as very first line the \listfiles command to your code and compare to my list (see below). You will find this section in the log file. Perhaps you need a system update. If so, start the MiKTeX Update from the Start menu.
