Can't install TeXLive 2008 - please help
I'm trying to install TeXLive 2008. First, I removed TexLive 2003 (yes, very old indeed, but actually it was working very well, it fitted my needs...) and TeXnicCenter, so I wouldn't get compatibility issues. Then, downloaded the installer from this site: http://tug.org/texlive/acquire.html. I got the .zip file, since I'm running Windows XP. After unpacking, I double-clicked the install-tl.bat file, but the installation aborted. I also tried through the command prompt, and the same thing happened. I tried both these methods several times. I read the documentation, tried most of the methods described and nothing... What am I doing wrong? I attached a print screen from the command prompt. Maybe someone can spot the problem there. Should I be installing anything else? The print screen is mentioning perllib, is this the problem? I really need help here, because my knowledge regarding computers in general is limited to office programs and some webdesign. I know nothing about binaries, and registries and that system-related stuff; hope the problem regarding TexLive installation isn't related to these binaries and registries, otherwise it will be difficult to me to get things working. I don't want to reinstall TexLive 2003 to continue TeXing...
Thank you,
Lucia

Can't install TeXLive 2008 - please help

I read many threads related to the broken installer, in the mailing lists that meho_r and Tomek suggested. After being able to download a functional installer, I got a message in command prompt, saying the installer wasn't able to find the pt translation (portuguese) and the installation stopped. I decided to use the following command:
Code: Select all
install-tl -lang en

Anyway, I need to send a email to the mailing list, referring this situation, because it was clearly stated that, if the installer wasn't able to translate, it would automaticaly switch to english, and this didn't happen. Maybe this information can be of help for the TeXLive developers...
Thank you again, guys.
